José Reis Chaves is a theosophist and biblical scholar and writes on MondaysI was inspired to write this column after I read, in the interesting book “Valor dos Sentimentos”, by the São Paulo scientist and doctor of chemistry Caruso Samel, the article divided into two parts: “A theory of mind 1” and “A theory of mind 2".These two texts were published before, in the newspaper “A Razão”, by Racionalismo Cristão, from the Branch in the Butantã neighborhood of São Paulo, SP, respectively, in July and August 2004.However, we will not use Caruso's wealth of technical-scientific terms, but a language with simple examples available to lay readers like me on the very complex subject that we will deal with in this column.Scientists generally examine and study matter, or visible things. But some are also interested in studying invisible things like spirit, which, for modern physics, especially quantum physics, are more important than visible ones.St. Paul already taught this too (2 Corinthians 4:18).And, as we always say, there are things that are only seen with a microscope, telescope and mediumship (for the vision of spirits and facts of the future and the past). Many things are said inappropriately. We say that the water in our house comes from the water tank, the pipe or the tap.In fact, it comes from the dam.Its origins are not to be confused with the means by which it reaches us.Let us say, therefore, correctly that the water in our house comes from such a dam, through pipes and taps...There is a lot of talk that man comes from ape.But its initial material origin is the earth, or its mineral salts, with a very large percentage of water, which is even according to the Bible: man (a reference to the body) comes from clay... And so, more clearly, we must also say that man does not come from the ape, but through the ape, as Huberto Rohden says.According to Caruso, scientists of the mind are embarrassed when they admit the hypothesis that it is in the brain. In fact, we cannot confuse the origin of a thing with the means by which it comes to our knowledge. The spirit is not the brain, just as the announcer is not the radio station.Intelligence and ideas come from spirit (mind) and manifest through the brain as the speaker's voice comes from the speaker, but manifests to us over the radio. Some scientists consider the mind to be the spirit. Therefore, we put mind in parentheses after spirit. But that's not quite it.The mind is a manifestation of the spirit, and it would never exist without it, but it is released without a specific place in space and it also manifests itself through the brain.Every seven years, all our cells are replaced. So our childhood memories come to us through the brain. If they were the brain itself, they would no longer exist...PS: I wish the directors, employees and readers of O TEMPO happy Christmas holidays and many joys and peace during the new year of 2022.José Reis Chaves is a theosophist and biblical scholar and writes on Mondays
