Study houses from Córdoba, Mexico, Chile, Brazil, Cuba, Uruguay and Colombia seek to launch a Virtual Microscope and a Regional Cloud, among other initiatives.Postgraduate Mobility is resumed.(01.07.2022)Through a session held within the framework of the International Congress of Public Universities (CIUP220), the Network of Macro-universities of Latin America and the Caribbean advanced in Córdoba in the process of cooperation and open exchange among its members, around ICTs (Technologies of Information and communication).The group, which brings together 37 universities, focused on the implementation of 4 work fronts for regional collaboration in technological development: Virtual Microscope, Regional Cloud and Grid, ICT Certifications, and Mobility in Artificial Intelligence.They did so based on a report presented by the president of the Network and rector of the UNAM, Dr. Enrique Graue Wiechers, together with the rector of the UNC, Dr. Hugo Juri.Rectors and officials from universities in Chile, Brazil, Cuba, Uruguay and Colombia also participated.The Virtual Microscope project aims to be able to share duly categorized microscopy images among member universities, which will then be available for use in a Regional Cloud as digital support.For its part, the aforementioned ICT Certifications aim to promote data science in the region, while Mobility in Artificial Intelligence aims to increase the region's potential in the field, through the training of professionals and the exchange of knowledge.Graue Wiechers reiterated the urgent need to join efforts and work collaboratively between the universities of Latin America and the Caribbean to reduce the gap that separates us from the most developed countries in terms of research.“If we don't integrate, we are far from being competitive”, he evaluated, when struggling for a common agenda among the members of Macrouniversities.Postgraduate mobility returnsIn another order, the Network of Macrouniversities agreed to the restitution of the Postgraduate Mobility Program (PMP), which had been on pause for the last two years, due to the pandemic.This modality reaches a hundred students from the region who are pursuing doctorates, masters and specialties, and who will now be able to resume face-to-face exchanges.The quota of students and financing modality will be defined by each University in the remainder of this year, to make mobility effective in 2023.
