University of Évora opens its doors to the community to celebrate science - Renascença

Apr 26, 2022 - 14:24 • Rosário SilvaDifferent activities for all ages, with free admission, is the proposal of the Science Festival'22, scheduled for this Wednesday, April 27th, in the Luís António Verney College building.The initiative is from the University of Évora (UÉ) and aims to mark the day of its School of Science and Technology (ECT).“We want to provide young people and the general public with opportunities to explore, simulate, experiment, discuss issues of scientific interest and concern, to have fun with science”, says Clara Grácio, director of ECT, quoted in a statement sent to Renascença.With the participation of all ECT departments, research centers and laboratories, the Science Festival'22 integrates a set of activities that promise to captivate all participants.As an example, the UÉ highlights “the programming of robots, with a small robotic arm”, as well as “the analysis of fragments of 19th century mural paintings.16th century, axes from the Neolithic, textiles from the 16th century.16th century or metals from the 16th century.XII, with a digital microscope or optical microscope”.Those who join the initiative will also be able to learn how to “read the height of trees with a hypsometer” or “how to sweep CO2 under the rug”, among many others prepared especially for this festival.“The hunt for the virus in the human body” is the title of the lecture that will be given by Miguel Castanho, professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon and researcher at the Institute of Molecular Medicine.The program also includes the performance "Say Words", developed by 1st and 2nd year students of the Interpreter/Actor/Actress professional course at the André de Gouveia Secondary School in Évora.With the activity “Flavor does not occupy a place”, the Mediterranean diet is present through the School of Health and Human Development of the UÉ.Before the close of this Science Festival'22, there is still time to listen to the Clarinet Quintet from the Music Department of the School of Arts of the Alentejo academy.“In short, we want the entire community to have the opportunity to get involved in this festival and celebrate science and the joy of scientific discovery”, summarizes Professor Clara Grácio.Terms and Conditions All comments are mediated, so their publication may take some time.The comments submitted must comply with the publication criteria established by the Renaissance Information department: not to violate the fundamental principles of Human Rights;not offend the good name of third parties;not contain accusations about the private life of third parties;not contain inappropriate language.Comments that disrespect these points will not be published.All fields are required.
